For most of you who are new to Chelsea, I try to put out a post like this once a week, to give updates as to what is going on, both for our team and for the wider world of soccer.  Take a look, there’s a lot going on.

This week:

Tuesday, August 10th, 7-9pm.  The US team plays a friendly against Brazil.  Catch it on ESPN2 and Univision.

Saturday, August 14th, time TBD.  Scrimmage against Houstonians.  Time still to be worked out.

Saturday, August 14th, time TBD.  Team meeting/pool party.  Hopefully after the scrimmage.

Saturday, August 14th, 5-7pm.  LA Galaxy visits NY Red Bulls.  LA was dominating the league until about a month ago.  Since then they’ve been eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions League by Puerto Rico Islanders, a second-division team which isn’t even doing well this season, and played poorly in MLS, too.  How will they do against NY and their 3 (!) marquee players: Juan Pablo Angel, Thierry Henry, and Rafael Marquez?  Catch it (or record it) on Fox Soccer Channel.

Saturday, August 14th, 7-9pm.  Houston Dynamo at New England Revolution.  The Dynamo desperately need to start winning if they want to make the playoffs.  Can they get their first win since May 22 against a similar former-great-team-turned struggler?  Catch it (or record it) on KHOU 11.2 and Fox Sports Houston.

Looking ahead:

Tuesday, August 17, 5:30-6:50pm.  Practice!  Official practice begins.

Wednesday, August 18, 7-9pm.  Columbus Crew vs. Municipal (Guatemala) in the CONCACAF Champions League.  Fox Soccer Channel.

Wednesday, August 18, 9-11pm.  Real Salt Lake vs. Arabe Unido (Panama) in the CONCACAF Champions League.  Fox Soccer Channel.

Thursday, August 19, 5:30-6:50pm.  Practice.

Thursday, August 19, 9-11pm.  Marathon (Honduras) vs. Seattle Sounders in the CONCACAF Champions League.  Will Seattle get to use their two new marquee players?  They played great (unfortunately) vs. Houston last weekend.

Saturday, August 21, 7:30-9:30pm.  Houston Dynamo vs. Chicago Fire (and their two new marquee players).  Catch it on KHOU 11.2 or see it in person.  Contact me for ticket info.

  1. Remind me again how I pay for the summer soccer fees.

  2. Jason, so will all of our practices be Tues/Thurs instead of Mon/Wed?

  3. Jason, is the practice at 5:30pm or 6:30pm on T/Th? Time listed above doesn’t match the Chelsea calendar on the left.

    • Matt, thanks for pointing that out. Apparently the software that ran the calendar widget in the left-hand column didn’t like daylight savings time. Now it seems to have corrected itself, or maybe I did something. Anyhow, the time is 5:30-6:50pm. If ever in doubt, the Google Calendar at the bottom should always be correct.
